Get ready with our Learner Licence Course
Learn about the difference between compulsory road rules, advisory actions, best practice and the reasoning behind some of New Zealand’s road rules.
The course is interactive, we study real time intersections where you can be the “cop” and identify incorrect and illegal driving behaviour.
Get a much better understanding of NZ traffic law and the rules of the road.
We cover the different types of questions in the theory test and help you identify the best answer.
Some home study will be required for both evenings.
After the course you should be able to answer at least 34 out of 35 questions correctly* (A pass is 32 correct out of 35).
We even book your test time for the day after. Your test application fee and theory test fees are additional – paid to NZTA through Thames AA on the day of your test (see additional fees below).

Learner Licence Test
Time will be set aside for you to sit your test the next day at Thames AA located at Thames Coromandel District Council offices at 515 Mackay St Thames (Test Application Fee & Test Fee are your cost – see conditions).
Learning difficulties
We will endeavor to help you where we can. You’re also welcome to bring a friend or someone familiar to you along to help you. On the day of your test we can even arrange a reader for you.
Please bring
Ideally, you will bring your own copy of the latest Road Code with you. Copies will be available, for $25.00 each if you do not have one. Or, you may wish to use the NZTA online Road Code if you have a cell phone or other small device with you. (WIFI may or may not be available).
Additional Fees
Our course does not cover (optional) NZ Road Code, or your test application and test fees. NZTA Test Application Fee and NZTA Theory Test Fees are in addition to the course fee and are your cost. These must be paid by you prior to sitting your Theory Test.

Terms and Conditions
Thames Driver Training makes no promise to any participant, nor accepts any responsibility for any participant, who goes on to sit their test and fails to pass. We cannot do the test for you.
We will attempt to run the course to a reasonably strict timetable that recognises the learning speeds and techniques of those who attend. We may finish early, however we may also finish later than expected.We will at all times maintain a positive approach, do what is right and treat you with respect. In return we expect the same to be shown to other course participants and ourselves during the course.
Thames Driver Training and their staff maintain the right to refuse or remove anyone who is disruptive, under the influence of drugs or alcohol or abusive in anyway and no refund will be given.
Attending this course does not remove the need for you to sit and pass the NZTA Learner Licence Theory Test.
